Member's Bio
Sarah Hong
Acclaimed by music critics as a “free, warm and very expressive” performer, cellist, Sarah Hong was born in Seoul Korea. She began studying cello at the age of six and was selected as most promising young cellist in the nation at the age of 16. She made her New York debut at Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall as a winner of Artists International. As a recitalist and an avid chamber musician, she has toured Europe, Asia and all over the US.
She studied at the Juilliard School with Zara Nelsova and Joel Krosnick while receiving both of her BM and MM degrees. She finished her artist certificate in chamber music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under the direction of Bonnie Hampton.
Currently, she is a cellist of Le Due Muse with pianist Makiko Ooka and Ensemble Ari. She teaches string orchestra at the King's Academy, and teaches special needs children at AMASE. She also founded the 'Phos (φῶς)' Benefit Concert Series to support various non-profit organizations serving children in underdeveloped countries and children in need. www.cellistsarahhong.com
Amy Hsieh
A native of Taiwan, cellist Amy Hsieh made her New York debut recital at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall in 2002 as a winner of the Artists International New York Debut Award. As an active chamber musician and soloist, Ms. Hsieh has performed throughout the United States, Europe and Taiwan, including concerts at the National Concert Hall in Taiwan, at prestigious venues in New York City such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and she is also a founding member of Nuance Chamber Ensemble.
Ms. Hsieh received her Doctor of musical Arts degree from Boston University, her master of music degree from Manhattan School of Music, and a bachelor of music degree from The Juilliard School. She has been a student of Ardyth Alton, and Michael Reynolds (cellist of Muir String Quartet).
As an educator, Ms. Hsieh is a founding member of C’est Bon Chamber Music Academy, a summer chamber music program for young musicians in the Bay Area. Currently, she is a faculty member at the Jou Music Institute and Encore Music and Arts, and maintains a private teaching studio in Sunnyvale, CA. Her upcoming performance includes a solo recital at Covenant Presbyterian Church as part of their Chamber Concerts series in February 2015.
Jihee Kim
Cellist Ji-Hee Kim is a native Korean cellist who relocated when she was age 15 to study at the Juilliard School Pre-college then she continued to pursue her Bachelors in Music at the Juilliard School. She has Masters in Music and Artist Diploma from the Northwestern University. Her former teachers include Min Ja Hyun, Channing Robins, and Hans Jorgen Jensen.
Ms. Kim has appeared as a soloist in Vienna, Prague and Seoul. She was a founding member of Maurice quartet and a section cellist of the Korean Chamber Ensemble.
She taught at the Northwestern University, the Seoul National University, Dan Kook University, Okemo Summer Music Festival and is actively teaching at her studio BayAreaCello.com
Vicky Wang
Cellist Vicky Wang made her New York debut in 2001 at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. Since then, she has appeared in solo and chamber music recitals at numerous major concert halls in the United States, Taiwan, Italy, Japan, and Switzerland.
Prior to relocating to California, Vicky served on the faculty of Mannes College of Music and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. She currently maintains an active private studio in Palo Alto, CA. Her students have been featured as concerto soloists with El Camino Youth Symphony, California Youth Symphony, and Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra.
Vicky is a founding member of C’est Bon Chamber Music Academy in Los Altos, CA; now in its 6th year, the academy is dedicated to teaching young musicians the joy and art of chamber music playing. She is also the artist-in-resident at pianoSonoma Music Festival in Sonoma, CA.
Vicky received Doctorate of Performance degree from City University of New York under the guidance of Marcy Rosen; she has also studied under the cellists Eleonore Schoenfeld, Alan Stepansky, Zara Nelsova, Joel Krosnick, and Darrett Adkins at the Juilliard School, where she obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in performance.
